PPI Claims And Recession Put Thousands Off Mobile Phone Insurance
January 26th, 2010
As if you need reminding, we’re in a recession and that means high unemployment, low spending levels and increased crime. At a time like this, insurance is increasingly attractive to help cover loan repayments or loss of items through theft, but rather than rising, the number of policies being taken out is falling.
This is mainly due to the dramatic cut backs being made by families up and down the country as they drop any non-essentials like mobile phone insurance to try and keep the wolf from the door. Add to this money saving; the increase in PPI claims for mis sold insurance and people are cancelling their cover left, right and centre. If you’re considering cancelling your phone insurance, first think about the possible cost to you if you lose your phone and second, be sure to look for cheaper policies.

Sign of the times
April 23rd, 2008
Having rather annoyingly left my mobile phone on the kitchen table this morning I thought this latest gadget to shortly hit the market was rather apt.
It’s the worlds first Windows Mobile Watch scheduled for a launch date of this Friday, 25th April. Little use to me today though…
Although it does come in at a rather costly £320, the Mobile Watch does have its fair share of features. It’s equipped with Windows CE 5.0 and GPRS, WiFi connection, Bluetooth, 1GB of T-Flash memory (with a free 512 MB card included), a 1.45-inch screen, a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, handwriting recognition software, multi-media player and support for Skype, MSN and other applications.
And of course there’s the convenience - as long as you remember to put it on of course. Another perk is it’s completely waterproof… great for the beach if you fancy taking a dip in the sea and don’t want to leave your mobile stashed precariously under your towel. Please don’t pretend you’re James Bond though and chat away to it whilst exiting the water.
I’m very interested to see how the Windows Mobile Watch performs when it hits the consumer market… Watch this space!
The Onyx Liscio
April 22nd, 2008
Every so often a mobile phone comes along which captures our interest that little bit more than then rest. So allow me to introduce to you the Liscio, a new creation from the UK based mobile phone manufacturers, Onyx.
According to the Onyx website their mission is to “become the innovative supplier of unique elegant style mobile phones with quality and technology”.
Well for us they certainly tick all the boxes on being unique and stylish. Not only does it look the business – its ultra compact and very lightweight, just 60 grams and 90 mm tall!
But have they had to make compromises on the quality and technology to form this little beauty? In short, yes, but these compromises are very few and far between, especially when you consider the Liscio has been designed specifically as a ’second’ mobile phone. There’s no camera for a start and it doesn’t support WiFi, 3G or GPS but it does come with some other great features such as an MP3 player and FM radio, a LED colour display, tri-band, stereo headset and includes a 1GB Micro SD Card… and at approx £130 we give the Onyx Liscio the Marmalade thumbs up!
